Young Creatives takeover old shop

Young creatives have hosted a takeover event at the former Argos shop in Hereford.

Two young people stand on a stage, speaking into microphones. The person on the left has long hair and is wearing a black T-shirt, while the person on the right is wearing yellow dungarees with a pattern, standing in front of a graffiti-covered wall and a backdrop of fairy lights. Portrait photographs are displayed on a wood-panelled wall behind them.

Brought together by Rural Media’s Point Of View project, the Young Creatives are a collective of artists, performers, musicians and makers aged between 14-25 years old.

The lo-fi takeover in October 2021 showcased parkour, dance, spoken word, poetry, art and live music. Visitors could check out the P.O.V. Portraits exhibition, which was installed at Powerhouse during the summer, and listen to youth-led discussion panels. There was also the chance to grab the mic and have a 1-minute rant about life in a rural county.

The event was free and designed to showcase and celebrate young culture in Herefordshire.
